About me

Hi, my name is Rebecca Sandnäs and I am a competitive biathlete born in 2004. I was born and raised in Jakobstad, Finland.

I have always been active and interested in sports. As a child, I did football, ice hockey, gymnastics, skiing, and at the age of 13, I started doing biathlon.

At the age of 16, I moved to Sollefteå, Sweden to attend a ski high school and focus on biathlon. During my junior years, I was also part of the Finnish junior national team.

After 4 years in Sollefteå I moved to Östersund to study social work and continue pursuing biathlon seriously. översätt till svenska

Achievements

As a junior, I have won several Finnish and Swedish championship medals. I also have a Finnish championship gold in the junior class in cross-country skiing.

I have represented Finland in the Biathlon Junior World Championships a total of four times, two Junior European Championships and one Youth Olympic Games.

I have several top-15 placements. In 2022, I placed 13th in the sprint and 14th in the pursuit at Junior World Championships held in Soldier Hollow, USA. The same year, I also placed 13th at the Youth Olympic Games in Vuokatti, Finland. In the 2024/2025 season, I had the honor of representing Finland at the Junior World Championships at my new home arena in Östersund. It was a successful championship with many good performances. I finished 14th in the mass start in the W22 class after competing for the medals. I also skied the first leg in the relay, where I came into the exchange in 3rd place, only a few seconds behind the lead. The same year, I participated in the Junior European Championships, where I finished 10th in the mass start. After the successful winter, I made my international senior debut at the final IBU Cup in Otepää, Estonia. In the spring of 2025, I won my first Finnish Championship medal as a senior athlete. The 2024/2025 season was a successful which led to a place in the Finnish B-national team.
